In January 2026, JPMorganChase, the world's largest bank by market value, acquired WealthOS, a wealth management infrastructure platform founded by two Sri Lankans.

What WealthOS built

WealthOS was founded in late 2019 by Anton Padmasiri and Chamat Arambewela. It built the behind the scenes systems that digital wealth managers and pension providers rely on: cloud native infrastructure for the UK's pension and wealth market.

It secured its first client in 2023. Less than three years later it was acquired by JP Morgan, one of the fastest major exits in Sri Lankan tech history.

Where the team went

The entire team, 50+ engineers in Sri Lanka and a handful in the UK, is joining JP Morgan Personal Investing, the bank's retail wealth brand built on its earlier £700M Nutmeg acquisition. Investors including Barclays and the Singapore and Sri Lanka focused VC fund nVentures exited.

This is the fourth major exit by a Sri Lankan tech startup, joining MillenniumIT, WSO2 and PickMe.

The takeaway

The world's most valuable bank placed a bet on Colombo's engineering talent. When a bank of that scale acquires mission critical financial infrastructure built by Sri Lankans, the question of whether Sri Lanka can build for global markets is already answered.
